Renee served as director of publications for the North American Montessori Teachers’ Association (NAMTA) for 18 years, copyediting and managing production of books, newsletters, and a quarterly journal.
As the organization’s archivist, she oversaw an 18,000-item collection of Montessori-related books and articles published from 1909 to the present. Based on that collection, she created and maintained a searchable database to generate a bibliography for both print and online use. In addition, Renee coauthored and managed publication of The Whole-School Montessori Handbook for Teachers and Administrators (1999) and its 2007 Supplement.
Prior to that, Renee spent five years as adjunct faculty in the writing program of Kent State University (Ohio), where she also taught a course in the history of the English language. Through her service on the English department’s textbook committee, she was invited by Harper & Row to review a prepublication manuscript of the college textbook Four Worlds of Writing (2nd edition). In addition, she has designed and facilitated professional development workshops in proofreading and editing for business at Cleveland State University (Ohio). She holds a master’s in English with concentrations in Old English, American realism, and 20th-century American literature, plus an outside minor in journalism.
